The faults caused by the Ball Screw are diverse and there is no fixed pattern. Some failures are gradual failures, which require a development process, and become more and more serious with the increase of use time; sometimes they are sudden failures, generally without obvious signs, but suddenly occur, such failures are various It is caused by unfavorable factors and the interaction of the outside world. Therefore, to determine the true cause of the failure through correct detection is a prerequisite for fast and accurate maintenance.
1) Inspection and repair of clearance between Ball Screw Nut pair and support system
When the CNC machine tool has a large reverse error, unstable positioning accuracy, or tool marks across the quadrant, the first thing to check is whether there is a gap in the screw system. The detection methods are as follows: use a dial indicator to match the steel ball in the center hole of one end of the screw to measure the axial movement of the screw, and another dial indicator to measure the movement of the worktable. Rotate the screw in the forward and reverse directions, observe the values reflected on the two dial indicators, and confirm the fault location according to the changes in the values.
a) Inspection and repair of the clearance of the screw support Bearing
For example, the indicator of the dial indicator measuring the Lead Screw does not swing when the lead screw rotates in the forward and reverse directions, indicating that the lead screw does not move. If the pointer of the dial indicator swings, it indicates that the lead screw is moving. The difference between the maximum and minimum measured values of the dial indicator is the axial movement distance of the screw. At this time, we have to check whether the back cap of the support bearing is locked, whether the support bearing has worn out, and whether the pre-loaded bearing washer is suitable. If there is no problem with the bearing, just refit it with a preloaded washer. If the bearing is damaged, the bearing needs to be replaced, refitted with a pre-loaded washer, and then the back cap is tightened. The size of the axial movement of the screw mainly lies in the accuracy of the preloaded washer of the supporting bearing. The most ideal state of the screw installation accuracy is that there is no positive and negative clearance, and the support bearing should have an interference of about 0.02mm.
b) Inspection and maintenance of the gap produced by the double nut pair of the ball screw
Through testing, if it is confirmed that the fault is not caused by the lead screw movement. It is necessary to consider whether there is a gap between the screw and nut pairs. In this case, the detection method is basically the same as the detection of screw movement. Use a dial indicator to measure on the workbench connected to the nut, rotate the screw in the forward and reverse directions, detect the maximum gap between the screw and the nut, and then adjust.
The method is to adjust the thickness of the washer 4 to make the left and right nuts 1 and 2 produce axial displacement, thereby eliminating the gap of the ball screw nut pair and generating pre-tightening force. Because the structure of the screw nut pair is different, the adjustment method is also different, so I won't list them one by one here.
c) Inspection and maintenance of single nut pair
For a single Nut Ball Screw, the gap between the screw nut pair cannot be adjusted. If it is detected that there is a gap in the screw nut pair. First, check whether the thread arc of the screw and nut has been worn out. If the wear is serious, a complete set of screw nuts must be replaced.
If the check is slightly worn, you can replace it with a larger diameter ball to repair it. First detect the maximum clearance of the screw nut pair, convert it into the increase of the ball diameter, and then select the appropriate ball to reassemble. Such maintenance is more complicated, requires a long time, and requires a high level of technology.
d) The gap caused by the connection between the nut flange and the worktable is not fixed well
This problem is generally easy to be overlooked. Because of the long-term reciprocating movement of the machine tool, the screw that fixes the farad plate is loosened to create a gap. When checking the gap between the screw and nut, the fault factor should be eliminated first to avoid detours during repair.
e) Repair of problems such as uneven movement and excessive noise of the ball screw nut pair.
The uneven movement and excessive noise of the ball screw nut pair are mostly caused by poor lubrication, but sometimes it may also be caused by the servo motor drive parameters not being adjusted properly.
2) Poor lubrication of bearings and screw nut pairs
If the machine tool produces noise and vibration during work, after detecting that there is no problem with the mechanical transmission part, the problem of poor lubrication must first be considered. After many years of operation, the automatic lubrication system of the screw and nut is often blocked and cannot be automatically lubricated. The problem can be solved by adding high-temperature and high-speed grease to the bearings and nuts. Grease can ensure the normal operation of bearings and nuts for several years.
3) Servo motor drive problem
Some machine tools produce vibration and crawling during movement, and there is often no problem in detecting the mechanical part. No matter how the adjustment is made, the vibration and crawling cannot be eliminated. After careful inspection, it is found that the servo motor drive gain parameters are not suitable for actual operating conditions. After adjusting the gain parameters, vibration and crawling can be eliminated.
